CEAS EXPO

April 7th, 2026, presented by DRT Holdings, LLC

expo-25

Each year, the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) hosts the CEAS EXPO, a large-scale showcase event where graduating seniors present their final capstone projects. Organized by CEAS Tribunal, the college's student government, EXPO brings together 200+ student groups across all undergraduate departments with projects ranging from adaptive skis, fire-fighting robots, student-built formula racecars, web-based applications like a smart parking system, exciting research surrounding net zero energy, soil sample analysis, and more.

All projects are judged by volunteer alumni and industry representatives. In 2025, 150+ engineering professionals dedicated their time judging, shaping the next generation of engineers. EXPO relies on generous donor support. There are opportunities for company sponsorship or individual donations to support the CEAS EXPO.

Opportunities to get involved

There are several ways to get involved in the CEAS EXPO and support our students as they showcase their final projects. Opportunities include:

Sponsorship opportunities for the CEAS EXPO are available through tiered packages designed to offer a variety of engagement benefits. These packages provide a valuable way to support our students while increasing your company’s visibility among key stakeholders, including industry and campus partners, and the next generation of engineering and applied science talent.

Sponsorship plays a key role in making this event a success. Your support helps us deliver high-impact experiences for attendees and celebrate the hard work and innovation of our fifth-year students as they showcase their capstone projects.

Full details of each sponsorship tier, including associated benefits, can be found in the CEAS EXPO Sponsorship Packet.

Sponsorship registration can be completed via the CEAS EXPO Sponsor Registration Form. Please note that payment is not collected at the time of registration. Once registration is submitted, UC Licensing and Trademarks will reach out to finalize an agreement and collect payment.

Sponsorship registration closes Friday, February 6, 2026 at 5:00PM EST

For questions or more information, please contact Gabby Hogan, Program Manager, CEAS Office of the Dean.

Individual, tax-deductible donations are accepted and appreciated. Donations made to the CEAS EXPO fund help celebrate student achievement and enhance the overall event experience.

Individual contributions can be donated via the Individual Donation Form.

For questions or more information, please contact Ann Terry, Senior Director, Alumni Engagement, CEAS, UC Foundation.

The CEAS EXPO relies on the support of volunteer judges to help evaluate student capstone projects and determine prize winners across various categories.

We are seeking alumni, industry partners, and individuals with engineering or technical backgrounds to serve as judges.

Judges will receive a schedule, rubric, and set of expectations during a brief judge training session held the morning of the EXPO.

Please check back at a later date for judge registration.

For questions or more information, please contact Gabby Hogan, Program Manager, CEAS Office of the Dean.

Student projects will be evaluated across seven judging categories, providing a comprehensive assessment of ideation, practical application, problem-solving, and presentation quality. These categories highlight the breadth of work produced in CEAS and ensure that every project is evaluated on its unique strengths.

  • Technical Excellence
    • This category recognizes projects that demonstrate a high level of technical rigor, precision, and mastery of engineering and scientific principles. Projects in this category showcase strong analytical work, appropriate use of modeling or simulation tools, and sound methodology. The results should reflect depth of technical understanding, attention to detail, and adherence to professional standards of practice.
  • Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship
    • This category recognizes projects that demonstrate exceptional creativity, problem-solving, and strategic vision. Judges will evaluate how effectively teams approach complex challenges through innovative ideation, unconventional design, and forward-thinking strategies that push the boundaries of traditional engineering or business solutions. Emphasis will be placed on emerging marketing potential, real-world business applicability, and consumer-focused design, highlighting ideas that are both inventive and feasible in today's competitive landscape.
  • Real-World Systems, Solutions, or Process Design
    • This category recognizes projects that demonstrate how engineering or research principles were applied to address a real-world challenge through a well-designed system, product, or process. Judges will assess the project's functionality, feasibility, and potential for implementation.
  • Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility
    • This category recognizes projects that prioritize environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability in their design, research, or implementation. Entries should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of resource efficiency, waste reduction, and ecological impact. Judges will evaluate how effectively the project integrates sustainable practices, promotes environmental awareness, and offers solutions that balance technical performance with environmental responsibility.
  • Human-Centered Research and Design
    • This category recognizes projects that place people at the core of the research and design process. Entries should demonstrate a clear understanding of user needs, behaviors, and experiences, using that insight to form meaningful and accessible solutions. Judges will look for thoughtful integration of human factors, usability, and empathy throughout the project's development. Projects in this category effectively connect technical innovation with human impact, enhance the quality of life, accessibility, or community well-being.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration
    • This category focuses on the intersection of multiple engineering disciplines, recognizing successful and thoughtful collaboration, and the balanced contribution of each field. Project solutions will highlight the effective integration of principles and fundamentals, demonstrating strong system design and optimizations across several engineering specialties.
  • Student Organization Project
    • This category recognizes the success of our engineering student organizations, highlighting the collaborative efforts, collective achievements, and group performance required to develop effective systems and solutions.

We welcome all members of the UC and Cincinnati communities to attend the CEAS EXPO. Undergraduate students, faculty, staff, family members, and friends are encouraged to join us in celebrating the innovation and hard work of our fifth-year students.

General admission of the CEAS EXPO will open in the afternoon, offering a chance to explore the wide range of student work across departments and disciplines.

We invite guests to stay for the closing ceremony, where category winners will be announced and awards will be presented.
